Some history about MicroCyte and our future plan

The Beginnings

Microcyte was founded by James Burrows in early 2007. James originally developed Microcyte as a fast CMS solution for developing freelance websites but due to immense positive feedback and numerous requests he took the decision to make a version of MicroCyte available for public release.

Once the decision was made to make MicroCyte a publicly released piece of software, a long cycle of development and testing was undertaken to make MicroCyte stable enough for 3rd party development. A large part of this process were the many website deployments using MicroCyte from which we learned a lot of lessons and fixed a lot of bugs. Each client had differing requirements so its was a challenge to add needed and useful features in a scalable and generic way. Over time we worked our way closer to a strong a stable release.

The Release

In 2008 Microcyte saw its first official release to the public as a $10 download through this website. MicroCyte was released along with a large collection of documentation and developer support. The release supports at least two top tier browsers and runs reliably in popular developer LAMP stacks like MAMP and WAMP.

The Future

In the near future we hope to greatly expand our template library, adding at least one template a week for the next several months in both Business and Fun sections. Longer term we'll be working towards MicroCyte 2.0 support which should include optional database support, automated template installation, theme support, better text formating controls and better performance.

We also plan to keep adding to the developer support on this website, eventually adding a discussion forum and other giving you the developers and users, more opportunity to have your say and contribute to the direction of MicroCyte development.
